Voting yes on school choice referendum

Dear Editor:

From what I saw presented at the March 5 hearing on school choice, it’s pretty clear to me that the selectmen have been right all along. The way we subsidize private schools now is attracting a lot of families that have more interest in a private school subsidy than they do in Alna.

My family has been in this town for 200 years and we have always willingly supported taxes to educate our kids, and educate them well. But Alna citizens never agreed to pay for all comers to get a private education. It’s really unfair to the rest of us to be asked to support a boom in private schooling. There are only 700 of us, after all.

I’m going to vote “Yes” to fix this.
