Elections 2016

Warner seeks move to treasurer

Tue, 02/02/2016 - 7:30pm

Departing Alna Town Clerk Amy Warner may still be making regular trips to the town office after the March town meeting. She will be the lone candidate on the ballot for treasurer.

Nominations closed Tuesday. Warner, incumbent First Selectman David Abbott and incumbent Road Commissioner Jeff Verney were the only residents to file papers.

The treasurer elected in 2014 and 2015, Aaron Miller, resigned in April 2015. Since then, former Alna resident and former treasurer Honora Perkins has served as interim treasurer but, as a non-resident, would be ineligible to run.

Warner has planned for some time to leave as clerk and has been training her replacement. Warner said Tuesday that becoming treasurer would allow her to stay involved with town business, but with more flexible hours so she can tend her and fiance Toby Stockford’s farm.

Town clerk is a hired job; treasurer, elected.

The treasurer and road commissioner’s posts are for one year; first selectman, two years.

    Elections are March 18.
