Dear Editor:

How is it that those who would deprive many needy people of support, disparagingly calling it "welfare," don't view tax breaks for the rich as "welfare for the rich?" Tax breaks for the wealthy are gifts to people who don't need them while the rest pick up the tab, as with higher property taxes.

"Welfare for the rich" tax cuts are yet other shifts of wealth from lower income people to the wealthiest. We already have the greatest concentration of wealth and power at the top. Is that not enough? Perhaps then we need more "welfare for the rich" to stimulate the Maine economy but that's doubtful. It's not worked so far.
