Ervin Deck confirmed Friday that he will be leaving his job as manager of the town-owned Wiscasset Municipal Airport. He will leave sometime after the first of the year, Deck states in an email response to a question from the Wiscasset Newspaper.

Deck also refers to his plans in a monthly report to Town Manager Marian Anderson.

Deck states in the report: “I announced my intentions to resign ... sometime in the near future. I anticipate making it official by the end of October. I will provide the town with ample notice and will assist as necessary in finding my replacement and conducting a thorough turnover.”

The report for September was part of Wiscasset selectmen’s packet of supporting documents for their November 4 board meeting. The board was scheduled to review department heads’ reports.

Deck served around the world as an air traffic controller for the U.S. Navy for 29 years. He expects to turn in a formal resignation from the manager’s position sometime in the next 30 to 45 days, according to Friday’s email. He declined to further discuss his plans at this time.

Deck has managed the airport since February 2008.
