This is an important season to the economy of our community. So make sure to take advantage of the local businesses who have supported us in many ways through the year and that we in turn give back. So please shop locally.

The 3rd annual Wings Over Wiscasset planning committee has announced the date for the event, Aug. 15 (rain date Aug. 16) with a vintage warplane show, static displays honoring our veterans, military reenactors, and much more, culminating in a big swing band dance. We will be looking for sponsors, vendors and volunteers. Our next meeting is Tuesday, Jan. 6  at 5:30 p.m. at Freedom Fellowship Church. All are invited! Call the WACC at 207-882-9600 for more info.

The Wiscasset Area Chamber Annual Awards Banquet is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 5 at Sheepscot Harbor Inn and Resort which has kindly donated the use of its facility for this event. Invitations will be going out to members soon. Non-members are welcome.

As a sidebar, Shep Rust, owner of Le Garage, brought to our attention that some guests of Cod Cove Inn who were there due to the power outage couldn’t say enough about the fantastic hospitality they received at the inn. Kudos to Jill and Ted Hugger and also on their Employer of the Year Award from Mobius for their support of the career opportunities program.

Volunteers are essential to any organization’s success. We depend on volunteers to accomplish the many responsibilities being a chamber entails. Events such as Alive on the River and Wings Over Wiscasset, chamber committees like membership, publicity, and marketing all require the involvement of members and non-members alike. A membership committee meeting will be held Monday, Dec. 15, at 8 a.m. at Cod Cove Inn in Edgecomb.
