Dear Editor:

I would like to share some basic information about the library for those who may be interested.

Who used the Wiscasset Public Library in 2014? Anyone who wanted a book to read, a video to watch, or a CD to hear used the library. If that was all, it would still be enough to validate support. Wiscasset Public Library has 5,448 registered patrons who borrowed 31,971 items last year. There are 34,896 physical items, 58 magazine subscriptions, 7,514 e-books and 4,863 downloadable audiobooks in the collection. A reflective telescope, a microscope and a kilowatt reader can be checked out. All of this available to the public.

While Wiscasset Public Library staff is pleased to see the collection being so well utilized by the public, it is not all that happens here. Also offered in 2014:

  • 57 children’s programs with 1,216 attendees;
  • Summer Reading Program: 120 participants with 86 children completing the program;
  • 58 programs for adults with 328 attendees;
