No one was hurt in a rollover accident Sunday on Wiscasset’s Foye Road, police and fire officials said. A local man was later summonsed on a driving to endanger charge, according to a Wiscasset Police Department press release and the department’s log, released Monday.

The accident, involving a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer, was reported at 12:50 p.m. Nov. 29; Wiscasset Police Officer James Read responded, according to Wiscasset Police Chief Troy Cline’s release on Monday morning. Reed found the car’s alleged driver, Caleb Libby, 24, walking back to the scene from Libby’s home on Foye Road. “He told Officer Read that he needed to get his phone to call the accident in,” Cline states in the release.

Libby allegedly told authorities that he had been traveling too fast for the curve in that area of Foye Road, near the power lines, and that he hit the soft shoulder and struck a sign, according to the release. The car rolled over onto its roof, the release continues.

A test done on Libby showed no alcohol in his system; he was then charged with Class E driving to endanger, Cline states in the release.

Traffic was briefly down to one lane following Sunday’s accident. Blagden’s Wrecker Service removed the car after it was put back onto its wheels.

Crews left the scene shortly after 1:30 p.m. Nov. 29.
