Wiscasset Police Blotter Feb. 26-March 4
Chief Jeff Lange reported the following activity for the week of Feb. 26–March 4:
Sunday, Feb. 26
Police issued five warnings for speed and one for failure to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk; responded to two burglar alarms, all secure; rendered services for a call about a suicidal person; and responded to a motor vehicle accident. Rhonda Dunning of Topsham turned onto Bath Road from Old Ferry Road and struck Gordon Atwater of Wiscasset. No injuries were reported.
Monday, Feb. 27
Police provided a renewed concealed weapons permit to a citizen; received two calls about erratic operations but were unable to locate; rendered services for a call about a suicidal person; investigated suspicious activity on Bath Road; and issued a warning for defect.
Tuesday, Feb. 28
Police investigated a case of harassment; assisted the animal control officer with an animal complaint; performed a compliance check on an inmate at the police station, per court order; served papers at Two Bridges Regional Jail; and checked on a burglar alarm, all secure.
Wednesday, March 1
Police issued two warnings for speed; found paperwork and returned it to its owner; rendered service in a case of harassment; accepted an application for a concealed weapons permit; responded to a loud noise complaint; accepted unwanted drugs at the police department; investigated a case of theft/forgery/fraud at the transfer station; removed an unwanted subject; and investigated a case of littering.
Thursday, March 2
Police investigated suspicious activity on Bath Road and Gardiner Road; performed a compliance check on an inmate per court order; assisted a citizen with a disabled motor vehicle; and arrested Elizabeth Staples, 25, of Topsham, on violation of conditions of release. She was transported to Two Bridges Regional Jail.
Friday, March 3
Police performed a compliance check on an inmate per court order; investigated two cases of theft, on Birch Point Road and as a result of a traffic stop on Bath Road; responded to a call about erratic operations but were unable to locate; issued warnings for suspicious activity; and investigated an assault on Bath Road. Police arrested David Downes, 48, of Wiscasset, for theft after a motor vehicle stop on Bath Road. He was transported to Two Bridges Regional Jail.
Saturday, March 4
Police investigated suspicious activity on Hodge Street; investigated police information on Bath Road; assisted a citizen on Birch Point Road, and responded to a burglar alarm on Gardiner Road and secured the area.
