‘Working’ the musical at the Chocolate Church

Posted:  Tuesday, July 25, 2017 - 3:00pm

The characters of “Working” are everybody you know! The situations are everyday situations. But this musical is anything but ordinary.

Based on Studs Terkel's best-selling book of interviews with American workers, “Working” paints a vivid portrait of the men and women that the world so often takes for granted: the schoolteacher, the phone operator, the waitress, the mill worker, the mason, and the housewife, just to name a few. This classic has been updated for a modern age, featuring new songs by Tony Award-winning Lin-Manuel Miranda, as well as favorites by Stephen Schwartz, Craig Carnelia and James Taylor.

Directed by Dillon Bates, the Southern Maine Performing Arts Collaborative pairs adult mentors with up and coming high school talent to produce a show that is not only entertaining but educational. You won't to miss this spectacular show and these beautiful human beings. They are amazing both on and off stage.

Performances are at 7 p.m. - the Chocolate Church Arts Center, 804 Washington Street, Bath - Aug. 11;  North Windham Union Church, Windham - Aug. 12, Maine Girls’ Academy, Portland - Aug. 18, Maine Girls’ Academy, Portland - Aug. 19.
