Workshop with renowned book artist Dea Fischer

Tue, 04/21/2015 - 12:00pm

Internationally acclaimed book artist and teacher Dea Fischer will be traveling from Alberta, Canada to Midcoast Maine this May to teach a bookmaking workshop. The two-day workshop is open to women only and is designed for both seasoned artists as well as students new to book making medium.

Idyllworks of Maine will host Fischer at the Grey Havens Inn in Georgetown. The bookmaking workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16. Participants can enroll as day students for the workshop only, or can enroll for the entire getaway, May 14-17.

A multi-faceted artist, Fischer spreads her creative time between book arts, collage, photography and large public and community art projects. She teaches popular courses in bookbinding, altered books and collage across North America.

“We were very lucky to get her,” said Patty Kimball, co-founder of Idyllworks. “She's in high demand and her teaching schedule is booked far in advance. The allure of spending the weekend teaching on the coast of Maine is what tipped the scales in our favor.”

Fischer holds numerous awards and her work is held in private collections in Canada, the U.S., England, Korea and Japan. Her books can also be found in special collections at The Banff Centre, The University of Toronto and Yale University. Idyllworks of Maine offers retreats on the coast for small groups of creative women. They provide great food, company, and top-notch artistic instruction from professional artists.

“Our retreats provide extraordinary art-making experiences in intimate settings,” Elizabeth Sokoloff, Idyllworks co-founder said. “Guests have the opportunity to bond with like-minded women and develop artistic skills they might not have ever realized they had. The experience is about discovery of yourself and the world.”
