Worldwide Photo Walk comes back to Boothbay Harbor

Event hailed as the largest global social event for photographers
Mon, 09/29/2014 - 11:30am

Local Maine photographer Mike Leonard will again lead the Scott Kelby Media group Photo Walk in Boothbay Harbor on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 4:30 p.m. This is the fifth Photo Walk Leonard has lead in the region, having visited Monhegan and Squirrel islands in the past.

The walk is all land based and will assemble at the in-town side of the footbridge in the parking lot at 4:30 p.m. Participants will traverse the footbridge to the east side of the harbor making stops at the town pier, Fishermen’s Memorial, the Catholic Church and more. Walkers will circle back to the Lobster Dock where we will share our experiences and optionally dine. The two-hour walk coincides with the 6:01 p.m. sunset and if the weather cooperates the hope is to see some nice color in the sky over the harbor.

Anyone can register to participate. The event is free of charge (but for the optional dinner) and is open to all ages and skill levels. All you need is a camera and a passion for photography. It doesn’t matter what kind of camera you use — those with point and shoot cameras are welcomed. The idea is to just get involved and share a common passion.

Prior to the walk Mike will offer some helpful pointers to help you make better pictures with your camera starting at 4 p.m. at the start location of the walk.

In addition to enjoying a day of photography with other photographers, registered participants may submit one photo from the walk to be eligible to win prizes from the Worldwide Photo Walk’s sponsors.

Each winning walk photo is then entered into a global competition where Scott Kelby picks the single "best photo" of the event along with 10 runners-up.
