Spectrum Generations will be hosting the Maine Marimba Ensemble at the DRA  Round Top Farm (Darrows Barn) in Damariscotta on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. The Maine Marimba ensemble performs captivating complex poly-rhythmic  arrangements of traditional and contemporary Zimbabwean music on their spectacular set of homemade marimbas.

Like many traditional forms of African art and expression, this music has deep roots that can be traced back for nearly a thousand years, if not more. Marimba music is composed on the m'bira, hosho, and ngoma. Inspired by dreams, the Shona people of Zimbabwe created this music as a means of communicating with the spirit world, giving thanks, and, in the 19th and 20th centuries, as a weapon against colonial rule and a path to liberation.

Advance tickets are currently on sale for $7.50 and can be purchased by calling the Coastal Community Center at 207-563- 1363. Tickets will be available at the door for $10. Event is sponsored by Ames True Value, First National Bank, and Colby & Gale.
