Wiscasset businesses prepare for Early Riser Saturday

Wed, 11/08/2017 - 7:30am

Wiscasset businesses, both downtown and along Route 1, are preparing for the Early Riser sale this Saturday, Nov. 11. Stores will open at 6 a.m. or earlier.

The best deals, according to local merchants, are earliest in the day. For instance, Rock Paper Scissors, in downtown Wiscasset, is offering 25 percent off merchandise from 6 to 8 a.m., and the percentage drops to 10 percent later, from 8 – 10 a.m. At Moulinette, the deal is 20 percent off most merchandise off from 6 – 9 a.m., with 15 percent off from 9 a.m. - noon.

In the past, many merchants and customers would wear pajamas and nightgowns to shop. At DebraElizabeth’s on Saturday, the tradition continues with the first part of its sale: 40 percent off from 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. requires “real” PJ’s.

Merchants interviewed were not opting for the tradition. “I think everyone can just dress as they normally dress,” said Erika Soule of Rock Paper Scissors.

“I didn’t even know that was a tradition,” Margot Sullivan of Moulinette said.

In addition to these merchants, many others will also be open. The Miss Wiscasset Diner at 782 Bath Road will participate, as will Treats,  BIRCH Home Furnishings will be open earl downtown, as will Big Al’s, Ames Supply, Carl M.P. Larrabee Insurance Company, and The Maine Real Estate Network.
