    Robert A. Lewis

    Robert Albert Lewis, 85, of Boothbay, died peacefully on Oct. 12, 2017 at the Gregory Wing of St. Andrews Village, 145 Emery Lane, Boothbay Harbor.

    Robert attended the Boothbay schools. On Nov. 13, 1952, Robert joined the U.S. Navy and decided to make it his career. In 1972 Robert transferred to the Fleet Reserve for 10 years. While in the service, Robert received many medals. His Vietnam medal was with 5 bronze stars and one silver. He also received a bronze star for good conduct.

    Emily W. Johnson, 93, of Damariscotta, died Oct. 8, 2017 at the Gregory Wing in Boothbay Harbor after a period of declining health.

    Born on Jan. 7, 1924 in Waco, Texas, she was the daughter of Robert and Mildred Wilford and wife of the late Arthur Johnson.

    A service to remember Emily will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main Street in Damariscotta, with the Rev. Richard Newell officiating.

    Clayton Foye

    Clayton Foye, 74, of Wiscasset died Oct. 10, 2017 at Togus VA Hospital.

    He was born in Wiscasset on Aug. 30, 1943, a son of Maurice P. and Doris L. (Pooler) Foye.

    He graduated from Wiscasset High School in 1961 and joined the U.S. Navy. He helped build Maine Yankee in Wiscasset. He was then employed by Bath Iron Works for 28 years as a shipfitter at the Harding Plant, retiring in 2006.

    Charles E. “Chuck” Sprague, 75, died Oct. 10, 2017 in Vassalboro while biking with a friend.

    He was born Dec. 15, 1941 in Boston, Massachusetts to Charles and Fozena Dunton Sprague. Chuck worked as a safety manager for Hodgdon Yachts in East Boothbay, as a metalware manager for CM Almy in Pittsfield, and for Sherman Lumber Company in Sherman.

    Beverly C. Reed, 90, of Dresden died Oct. 9, 2017 at her home with her family by her side.

    She was born on Nov. 17, 1926 in Providence, Rhode Island, the daughter of the late Harold and Marie Austin.

    Beverly was a hard worker. She was employed at Clarostat, Arrowhart and Sylvania just to name a few businesses.

    Janet J. Campbell, 98, of Boothbay died peacefully Oct. 9, 2017 at Boothbay Green Eldercare Facility, Country Club Road, Boothbay.

    Janet taught Sunday school, and Bible school during the summer months. She was a member of the Boothbay Baptist Church. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt and housewife.

    Janet was born in Wyckoff Township, New Jersey, the daughter of Lydia Smith and Uipko Stonehouse.

    Henry A. Murphy died peacefully at his home in Franklin, New Hampshire Oct. 2, 2017 at the age of 73.

    Henry is survived by wife, Virginia Murphy; her children and grandchildren; his stepmother, Alice Murphy; brother, Pat Murphy and his wife Jane; and several nieces and nephews. 

    He was predeceased by his mother Pauline Murphy and father Herbert Murphy.

    She was predeceased by her father, Austin E. Trask.

    Arthur B. “Barry” Ethier, 74, of Gardiner Road, Wiscasset died Sept. 29, 2017 at his residence.

    He was born in Portland Aug. 24, 1943, a son of Arthur George Ethier and Elizabeth (Stimpson Goodrich). He attended Portland schools and entered the United States Army. On Jan. 16, 1979 he was employed at Bath Iron Works and was currently in the maintenance electrical department. On July 1, 1989 he married Deborah J. Reed and they resided in Wiscasset.

She was brave and strong, but finally lost her two year battle with cancer, living her last several weeks under hospice care in a nursing facility in Bath, Maine.

    She was born July 28, 1922 in Linekin, daughter of Fred and Mabel Brewer.

    She graduated from William Hall High School in West Hartford, Connecticut and the Golden School of Beauty Culture in Portland, Maine.

    She married James Delafield of Duquesne, Pennsylvania, who died in World War II. She later married Ralph Watts of Boothbay Harbor.

    Ruth lived on McKown Point Road in West Boothbay Harbor from 1961 to 1993.  Ruth was devoted to her family.  She had a successful home business making yacht interiors.  She enjoyed sailing with her husband from their home on Townsend Gut in their 40' Hinckley and later their 30' Etchells 22.

    Mary Elizabeth Cahill, 90, of Jackson, New Hampshire passed away peacefully at her summer home in East Boothbay, Maine on August 17, 2017.  She was the wife of James D. Cahill Jr., who died in 2000.  Mary was the daughter of William Boland and Mary Elizabeth Linnehan.

    Richard E. Williams, 81, died peacefully at his residence in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, on the morning of Aug. 12, 2017.

    Richard attended local schools, and was a truck driver for 50 years, “Same company – different names.” He was employed by Lewis Oil Company for 38 years, and later, Reny Construction for 20 years, retiring in 2002. He enjoyed going to Florida in the winter, and loved to travel. He especially enjoyed going anywhere for a “ride”, and had a passion for “Up North.”

    He was predeceased by his father, Jerry Closson.

    He is survived by his mother, Donna Closson, of Boothbay Harbor; his brothers, Wayne and his wife Mary, and Todd Closson; sister, Amy Shaw and her husband Robert. He will also be missed by his nephews and nieces, Lewis and Michael Closson, Megan Gill and JoAnna and Robert Shaw.

    Robert Andrews Shepard, son of medical missionaries Lorrin Andrews Shepard and Virginia Moffat, was born in Gaziantep, Turkey in 1923. He died peacefully on July 26 in Boothbay Harbor.

    Robert attended school in Boothbay Harbor and Deerfield Academy. He earned a B.S. and a PhD in chemistry at Yale University. During World War II he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Oakridge, Tennessee.
