    During his career, Donald worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Beltsville, Md. After retiring, he and Verna moved to Edgecomb.

    He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and Air Force Reserve.

    Fredda Mae Winnefeld

    Fredda Mae Coupland Winnefeld died September 26 at her retirement home in Annapolis, Md. She had Alzheimer's disease.

    She was born in St. Clair County, Ala. on October 20, 1929 and was raised in Alabama and Florida. She graduated from Stetson University and was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha and Beta Beta Beta sororities. She was the 1951 Color Girl at the Naval Academy.

    Weston Rice

    Weston Rice of East Boothbay died August 31, 2012.

    Born in East Boothbay on August 3, 1928, he was the son of Carl and Helen Rice.   Weston, or "Wes" as his many friends called him, served in the U.S. Army and was employed at Robinhood Marina for many years and also worked on Squirrel Island as a caretaker with his brother, Harland. 

    He enjoyed hunting, gardening and spending time with his friends at Gray's Wharf.

    Arthur A Barbour Jr., M. D., 86, of Trevett died Friday, Sept. 14, 2012 from complications related to congestive heart failure. 

    He was born on Feb. 23, 1926 in Medford, Mass. to Arthur A Barbour Sr. and Marion Beaty Barbour, the second of three children. His early childhood was spent in Reading, Mass. and the family then moved to Arlington, Va. where his father spent his working life with the U.S. Government printing office.

    Arnold D. McLain

    Arnold D. McLain of Edgecomb died Friday, Sept. 14, 2012 after a long battle with cancer.

    He was born December 14, 1947, the son of Dana Prior McLain and Gwen (Stover) McLain. He graduated from Lincoln Academy in Newcastle.

    Arnold worked many jobs, starting in a shipyard with his Dad, followed by lobstering, and then becoming a self-employed carpenter.

    Harry Tuck Leach, 95, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at the Gregory Wing in Boothbay Harbor.

    He was born on October 17, 1916 in Needham, Mass., the son of William Fullerton Leach and Emma Ditchett Leach.

    Like his older and younger brother, Harry graduated from Needham Senior High School and Bowdoin College. At Bowdoin, he was a member of the Chi Psi Fraternity, and editor of the Bowdoin College Yearbook, “The Bugle.” He graduated in 1938.

    Stanley Richard Cole, 84, of Cape Porpoise died on August 29 from a broken heart after losing his wife, Deborah Cole, just over two months earlier. 

    He was born in 1929 to Olive and Hampton Cole in Southbridge, Mass. He later went on to live with his older brother Ralph Cole and his wife in Westford, Mass. He graduated from Gould Academy in 1951, where he met the love of his life, then Deborah Durivage. They were married in 1951.

    Phyllis H. Verney

    Phyllis Herald Verney, 80, of Alna, died peacefully September 8, 2012 at her home with her husband of 57 years, Richard, by her side.

    Phyllis was born May 4, 1932, in Damariscotta to Lester and Isabel Herald.  She attended Lincoln Academy graduating in 1950. Four years later she married her lifelong husband Richard, on July 25, 1954 at the Baptist Church in Damariscotta. They were blessed with four children, three sons and a daughter.

    David P. McKay, 85, of Hudson, Mass., formerly of Shrewsbury, Mass., died on September 4, 2012, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. He leaves his wife of 59 years, Patricia, five children, two daughters-in-law and two sons-in-law, ten grandchildren and one great grandson. David was a longtime summer resident in Ocean Point, and in the past was the summer organist at the Wilson Memorial Chapel.

    Rose Katherine (Chapman) Boudin, 77, of Damariscotta, died on September 5, 2012, at Cove’s Edge in Damariscotta after bravely facing the many challenges of a progressive condition known as Cerebella Ataxia.

    Rose was born on October 16, 1934, in Dresden, where she attended school and grew up as one of ten children. She married Kenneth Boudin in 1952, and although divorced in 1982, was always considered one of the Boudin family.

    He was born in Quincy, Mass. in 1936, the son of David G. and Ethel L. (Wills) Way, and attended Quincy and Acton high schools. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from Renssalear Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. in 1958. He met his future wife and lifetime companion Carol J. Alger while in college and they were married in Albany, N.Y. in 1957. Children Richard and Nancy were born in successive years thereafter.

    Perleston L. “Bub” Pert of Topsham died on August 27 at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough.

    He was born in Bath on January 25, 1931, the son of Perleston L., Sr., and Katherine White Pert.

    He attended Bath schools, graduating from Morse High School in the Class of 1948. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism in 1953 from the University of Maine at Orono, where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.

    Lincoln G. Bailey

    Lincoln G. Bailey, 81, a resident of Enfield for 32 years, died peacefully at Parkway Pavilion on August 25. 

    He was the beloved husband to Adele (Muise) Bailey and the son of the late Clarence and Gladys (Nason) Bailey of Wiscasset. 

    Lincoln was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving his country during the Korean and Vietnam wars. Part of his military training involved a six-month project called the “Ice Skate Alpha Two” located at the North Pole.

    Doris L. Petre, 85, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at the Freeport Nursing Home in Freeport.

    Doris was born March 4, 1927 in Tampa, Florida to Arthur and Doris Greenhill. Her mom died when she was four years old and she was raised by her great aunt, Hezabinda Ellum. She grew up in Greenville, Conn. and graduated from Stratford High School in the class of 1942. She also lived in Bridgeport, Conn., Maryland and moved to Maine in the 1970s.

Pauline attended local schools in Southport and Boothbay until her family moved to Brunswick in 1936. She graduated from Brunswick High School, Class of 1943.

    She was born in Wiscasset on Aug. 13, 1940, the daughter of Carroll and Elizabeth Sproul.

    Katherine was a caregiver for many people for most of her life.

    She loved her boys, grandkids, beano, and helping others.  Katherine will be missed by her family and friends.

    He was born in Kewanee, Ill., on Nov. 15, 1919, a son of Joe Lewis and Florence (Whittle) Smith.

    On February 26, 1955, he married Jane McGrath. He was employed as a supervisor for a government agency.

    Although he only had an eighth-grade education, he completed the New York Times crossword puzzle every day.

    Eino Hjalmar Abbott, 61, a resident of North Nobleboro Road, Waldoboro, died Tuesday, July 10, at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a brief period of failing health.

    He was born Sept. 26, 1950, in Boothbay Harbor, the son of Merritt and Helmi Lampinen Abbott, and was a graduate of Medomak Valley High School. Upon his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam as part of the 1st Signal Brigade.
