    Sunday, June 26

    10 a.m. to 4 p.m.    Arts & Crafts Show   On the Boothbay Common, Route 27, Boothbay.

    10 a.m    Windjammer Days Golf Tournament   Shotgun start 10 a.m., Boothbay Harbor Country Club, Country Club Road, Boothbay. Entry forms at www.windjammerdays.org.

    1 p.m.     Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club One Design Race   The race takes place between the Boothbay Harbor Shipyard and the Tumbler Island buoy. Best viewing from the Department of Marine Resources, McKown Point Road in West Boothbay Harbor. Sponsors:  Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club and the Boothbay Harbor One Design Association.

    4 p.m.     Blessing of the (Fishing) Fleet    The blessing of the fishing fleet was performed for 42 years during Fishermen's Festival. Although the festival has been discontinued, this is still a fishing community — and the boats must be blessed. From  here on out, it will be held during the WJD Festival.  The region's fishing fleet passes by area clergy, on the east side near the Fishermen's Memorial (across from Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church on Atlantic Avenue), who bless each vessel as it passes by. The fleet parades around the inner and outer harbor — once as they make their way to the east side and then once more after the blessing. Can be viewed at any point around the harbor.

    Monday, June 27

    5-7 p.m.   Artist Reception   at the Greenleaf Inn An Art Reception Open House will be held at Greenleaf Inn (65 Commercial St.) from 5-8 p.m. Tickets are $10 p.p. and include hors d'oeuvres and a hosted bar. A Community Fireworks Fund benefit. Tickets can be purchased at Coco Vivo Art For Living and the Greenleaf Inn. Call Mary Phelps at Coco Vivo (129 Commercial St.), 207-633-0671.

    7 p.m.    Miss Windjammer Pageant    A brand new event for girls aged 9-12 to be held in the gym at the Boothbay Region YMCA. Townsend Avenue.

    Tuesday, June 28

    7- 10 a.m.   Pancake Breakfast    In the Whale Park, Commercial Street, hosted by the Boothbay Harbor Fire Department.

    9 a.m.to 9 p.m.  Friends of Windjammer Days Tent   hours for information, festival schedules, supplements, shuttle maps, official WJD T-Shirts, raffle drawings and winner announcements.

    9 a.m. to 6 p.m.    Artists Alley    Meet regional artists displaying their works and watch a few artists in action on the By-Way. Rain location: Boothbay Harbor Fire Station. 11 Howard St.

    9 a.m. to 6 p.m.    Kid’s Alley    This place is loaded with games and activities for all youth. Corner of Boothbay House Hill and McKown St.

    10 to 10:30 a.m.   Pirates of the Dark Rose Puppet Show    Gather round at the Whale Park and hear how the Pirates found the buried treasure on Treasure Island …  with puppets on a large treasure map  - yeah, we didn't see that comin' either … pirates and puppets?

    10 a.m. to 4 p.m.    Tours of the United States Coast Guard Station    Meet our Coast Guard personnel and view the operational and logistics capabilities of our local station. McKown Point Rd., W. Boothbay Harbor. A free shuttle service stop.

    10 a.m. to 2 p.m.    Windjammers for Wee Mateys     Crafts, games and storytelling. Maine State Aquarium will bring a touch tank — weather permitting. Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library lawn, 4 Oak Street. For more details: 207-633-3112.

    12:30-1:30 p.m.    Pirates of the Dark Rose Duels & Meet Oreo the pirate bird, Whale Park.

    1-3 p.m.     Concert   The R&R Duo, a.k.a. Rob Haley-Babson & Ronda Dale, Whale Park Stage 

    1:30-3 p.m.    Recruiting for Pirates    Join up with the Pirates of the Dark Rose to keep the British from putting a stop to all the pirate fun when they attack the next day. Kid’s Tent, Boothbay House Hill. Learnin' includes The Pirate Articles, the Jolly Rodger, cutlass lessons, pirate dentistry (tooth worm removal and the like) and more. If you're 6 to 60, you can be a pirate.

    1-4 p.m.   Watch the Windjammer Fleet    Under full sail off Ocean Point and entering Linekin Bay from land at Ocean Point (Route 96, East Boothbay) or aboard one of the vessels at the piers in the Harbor. Check down at the piers for more info.

    3-4 p.m.   Pirates of the Dark Rose Tours  ... of the Must Roos  pirate ship docked at Fisherman’s Wharf Inn, Pier 6.

    3-4 p.m.   Antique Boat Parade  Boats parade around the inner and outer harbor. Watch from the Rocktide Inn deck and post-parade, meet some of the captains docking there and check out the boats up close.

    4 p.m.    Cap ‘n Fish Windjammers At Rest Cruise. Reservations: Pier 1. 633-3244.

    4-5 p.m.    Concert – Noel Arrington & Gabe Tonon, Whale Park Stage 

    4:30 p.m.   Sailing trip on Bay Lady, 2 hours, to see schooners in Linekin Bay. Reservations: Balmy Days Cruises, Pier 8. 633-2284.

    5-6 p.m.    Concert - Junction 27, Whale Park Stage

    5-10 p.m.   Kavanaugh Amusements Carnival    Located at the Boothbay Region High School football field on Townsend Avenue/Route 27.

    6- 7 p.m.    Cannon Lessons and Pirate Shoot Out  Led by the “illustrious” Captain Crudbeard.

    7-9 p.m.    Concert - Tim Sprague & The Murky Water Band, Whale Park stage

    7:30 p.m.   Red Cloak Haunted History Tours   Take a lantern-lit walk with The Lady in the Red Cloak and listen to tales of Boothbay Harbor’s early days, Windjammer history, seafaring superstitions, pirate lore, and ... ghost stories!  Participation in this 90-minute walking tour is by reservation only. Appropriate for all ages. Adults: $15, children under 12: $7, children under 5 are free. Call 207-380-3806.

    9:30-10 a.m.    Weapons Demonstration    See how pirates of old took their prey using Pirate’s flags, grappling hooks, pistols, cutlasses ... this is a “gripping” show-and-tell! Whale Park, Town Landing.

    10 a.m. to 3 p.m.    Kid’s Tent     Activities with the Boothbay Region Land Trust - Face painting, knot tying, flag and sail making, book printing and model boat building. Free temporary tattoos for sailors and pirates, and balloon sculptures with Twinkles and Fumbles the clowns. Boothbay House Hill.

    High Noon - 12:30 p.m.   British attack on Boothbay Harbor   At the Public Landing – live!   Captain Crudbeard and his Pirates of the Dark Rose have no intention of giving up their wicked fun in Boothbay Harbor, but the British gov'nor has vowed to stop them. Captains Randy and Nate navigate Friendship sloop Sarah Mead into the Harbor to help thwart the British attack on our coastal town. Town Landing, Whale Park.

    12:30 p.m.   Cap’n Fish’s Windjammers Parade of Sail Cruise. Reservations: Pier 1. 633-3244.

    1-3 p.m.    Windjammer Fleet Arrives in Boothbay Harbor    Watch from the Whale Park, the Footbridge, or Fishermen’s Memorial (a dory at rest) on Atlantic Ave., across from Our Lady Queen of Peace church.

    1-3 p.m.    Pirates of the Dark Rose    Are your tour guides aboard the Must Roos pirate ship docked at Fisherman’s Wharf Inn, Pier 6.

    1:45 p.m.  Novelty 45 minute boat trip to cruise among the anchored windjammers. Reservations: Balmy Days Cruises, Pier 8. 633-2284.

    2 p.m.      Lobster Eating Contest    Open to anyone who loves a good lobster and a tasty competition! Purchase two lobsters and be the first person to pick out the claws, knuckles and tail, and eat them of course, to win!

    2-3 p.m.    Concert  Ben Betts/Hollis Woods, Whale Park stage  

    3 p.m.        Cod Fish Relay Races     All teams must have four members. In turn, each member dons oil pants and jacket and boots and carries two cod fish around a set course. First team with all members back, wins!

    3-4 p.m.    Concert -  Danny Beal, Whale Park stage  

    3–6 p.m.     Schooner Bowdoin Open House    Learn about its mission and the Maine Maritime Academy. Town Dock. Tour times posted at the Friends of WJD tent in the Whale Park.

    4-5 p.m.    Windjammer Days Street Parade    Route begins at the Boothbay region schools on Townsend Ave./Route 27, bearing left at the Congregational Church to Townsend Avenue, to Commercial Street.

    5-6 p.m.     Concert - The  Y-Arts youth group, Whale Park stage  

    6-10 p.m.    Kavanaugh Amusements Carnival    Located at the Boothbay Region High School football field. Route 27/Townsend Ave.

    7- 9 p.m.     Concert - Pat Colwell & the Soul Sensations, Whale Park stage

    6-11 a.m.   Community Pancake Breakfast  Hosted by the Edgecomb Congregational Church and Edgecomb Fire Department at the firehouse, 473 Boothbay Road/Rt. 27, Edgecomb. 207-882-4060.

    8 a.m.     Rocky Coast Road Race  Participate in a 5K or 10K race, or take the “Zen” approach and sign up for the 5K walk. Race/walk course along the waterfront. Can sign up that morning. Entry fee: $25 per person. All proceeds to benefit the Y’s LiveSTRONG program for cancer survivors. Boothbay Region YMCA, 261 Townsend Ave./Route 27.

    6 p.m.    Tug of War Across The Harbor   The second annual Tug of War from the town parking lot at the footbridge to the east side at the other end of the footbridge. See teams compete from both sides for bragging rights.

    9 p.m.     Lighted Boat Parade    Boats parade through the harbor starting in the outer harbor and circling through the inner harbor twice. Have a boat? Decorate it and join the parade — registration forms available at www.windjammerdays.org.

    The Parade of Sail: Wednesday, June 29 from 2-4 p.m. - depending on the wind - the schooners sail into the harbor and set anchor.

    145’ overall, a Maine coasting schooner

    Designed and built by the Lees at the North End Shipyard

    Launched April 16, 1983, Heritage is the newest schooner in the Maine fleet.

    American Eagle

    AMERICAN EAGLE

    Homeport: Rockland, Maine

     

    122’ overall, the last fishing schooner built in Gloucester, Massachusetts.

    Originally launched on June 2, 1930 as the Andrew & Rosalie in Gloucester.

    Renamed American Eagle by Ben Pine in 1941.

    Foss purchased the schooner in 1984 and completely restored her over an 18 month period as a sailing vessel from a power fishing ship.

    American Eagle is a member of the Maine Windjammer Association

     

    Schooner Bowdoin

    Owner/Captain: Eric Jorgenson

    Homeport: Castine, Maine

     

    An 88’ two masted auxiliary schooner designed by William H. Hand to the specifications of Donald B. MacMillan.

    Built 1920-21 at Hodgdon Brothers (now Hodgdon Yachts). Launched from Hodgdon Brothers in East Boothbay 1921.

    Completely rebuilt 1980-84 by Maine Maritime Museum’s boat shop, Percy & Small Shipyard.

    Bowdoin has been the official vessel of Maine since 1988, used for educational purposes.

    Launched in 1992.

    Schooner Eastwind

    Homeport: Boothbay Harbor, Maine

     

    65’ long, modeled after the Gloucester fishing vessels

    Designed and built by Captains Herb & Doris Smith in Albion, Maine 1997-99.

    Daily 2-hour  cruises depart from Pier 6 May - October

     

    Schooner Lazy Jack

    48’ overall- topsail schooner

    Built at Whittier & Lowe Shipyard, Ipswich, Massachusetts

    Designed by Fred Whittier in 1947 who named the ship after his favorite haunt in Key West - Lazy Jack’s

    Daily cruises depart from Pier 1 May to mid-October

    Ernestina-Morrissey

    ERNESTINA-MORRISSEY

    Owned by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts through the Schooner Ernestina Commission.

    Homeport:  Boothbay Harbor - temporarily

     

    Built at the James & Tarr Shipyard in Essex, Massachusetts.

    Launched February 1, 1894 as the Effie Morrissey.

    She has been a Gloucester Grand Banks fishing vessel, Arctic explorer, and carried World War II supplies

    The Republic of Cabo Verde repatriated/gifted her to the citizens of the U.S. in 1982.

    Until 2004 Ernestina-Morrissey entered into new “waters” as an education/environmental/maritime/sciences and cultural ambassador.

    A full restoration is in progress at the Boothbay Harbor Shipyard.

    Harvey Gamage

    HARVEY GAMAGE

    Owner: Phineas Sprague, Portland Yacht Services

    Homeport: Portland, Maine

     

    131’ overall, this gaff rigged schooner was built in S. Bristol, Maine by master shipwright Harvey Gamage in 1973.

    Under the Harvey Gamage Foundation, the vessel began a new life as an education venue taking students out for a semester at sea.

    The Gamage continued her life as an education vessel under the Ocean Classroom Foundation until the summer of 2014 when the foundation ceased operation.

    Privateer Lynx
    PRIVATEER LYNX

    Captain Don Peacock

    Homeport: Fairhaven Shipyard, Fairhaven Mass.

     

    Built at Rockport Marine and designed by Melbourne Smith, Privateer Lynx is modeled after an 1812 Baltimore Clipper Schooner.

    The 122' (overall) Privateer Lynx was launched from Rockport, Maine on July 28, 2001. She is used as a hands-on education vessel.
