In partnership with LincolnHealth, the Boothbay Region YMCA [and Central Lincoln County YMCA] offer the community evidence-based health intervention (EBHI) programs to assist in chronic disease management and prevention. We offer individuals the tools needed to achieve greater health and well-being through program-supported lifestyle intervention. We work closely with our community partners including schools, businesses, and other local health care providers on these programs.

EnhanceFitness is a 16-week program focused on falls prevention and arthritis management proven to help older adults become more active, energized, and empowered. With safe, low-impact exercises, strength training, balance and flexibility components, older adults of all fitness levels will grow stronger, boost activity levels, and improve balance and flexibility. Classes are on-going and can be joined any time!

Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring is a 4-month program that offers personalized support as participants develop the habit of monitoring their blood pressure. Research shows that the process of recording blood pressure at least twice a month over a period of four months can lower blood pressure in many people with high blood pressure. Participants take and record their blood pressure 2 times per month, attend 2 consultations with a Heart Healthy Ambassador and attend monthly nutrition seminars. This program can be done in person or virtually and can be started at any time.

Evidence shows that child weight management programs are more effective when the whole family is involved and committed to adopting healthier habits. In the Healthy Weight and Your Child Program, families work with trained leaders to learn about topics including healthy eating, physical activity, portion control, goal setting and rewards, among others.

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a research-based physical well-being program designed to help adult cancer survivors reclaim their physical, emotional, and spiritual strength. Safe and effective physical activities and a supportive environment helps foster unique and positive relationships. Each survivor is provided a membership to the Y for the duration of the 12-week program.

Robin Maginn is the EBHI coordinator for both the Boothbay Region and CLC YMCA’s and is an instructor for the Diabetes Prevention Program, EnhanceFitness, Tai Chi and the Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring programs.

“We’ve had great success with the EBHI programs. Our participants have consistently seen improvements in their physical and emotional well-being. We’d like to spread the word about the great Evidence-Based Health Intervention programs we offer.”
