Two Salty Dogs Pet Outfitters has been a long-time supporter of Action for Animals Maine and Don and Liana donate the proceeds from the sale of used tennis balls to us. While their unofficial motto is “We’re too small to carry any junk!”, anyone who has ever had a dog knows that a used tennis ball is not junk and for this, Action for Animals Maine is thankful.
Two Salty Dogs opened in May of 2012 with the help of their two black labs, Max and Auggie. Over the years, they have won awards and have been Downeast Dog News’ Best Maine Pet Store Award from 2013 to 2020 and Downeast Magazine’s Best Pet Store in 2021.
The little store is crammed full of great items for dogs, as the name implies, and they also carry great items for cats too! My cat will attest to the quality of the cat nip there and he “enjoys” wearing his sweater from Two Salty Dogs. Max, the Black Lab who originally conceived the idea for the store, guided Don and Liana every step of the way. Under his watchful nose, Two Salty Dogs Pet Outfitters became the award-winning pet store that we are lucky to have in our community. Max continues to supervise the brick and mortar and online stores with the assistance of Auggie, Coal, Buddy, Teddy and Marz. All this help is needed as Max says, “Supervising Don is a full-time job in and of itself! With my top Black Lab Lieutenants, we continue to get the job done!”
