2 ties have Wiscasset boys' soccer in sixth place
Two recent ties have Wiscasset soccer in sixth place in the boys’ 8-man Southern Conference standings. On Sept. 26, Wiscasset tied 1-1 against Rangeley in their Homecoming game. On Sept. 28, Wiscasset traveled to Vinalhaven and played to another 1-1 tie.
In their double-overtime tie with Rangeley, Teagan Marr scored with an assist by Gavin James for the team’s only goal. Goalie Kiernan Atwood made a tremendous save during a penalty kick in the second overtime period to secure a tie in a highly competitive game, according to Coach Shanon Cotta.
On a rain-soaked field in Vinalhaven, the Vikings' Aidan Farnham scored the game’s first goal in the first half. Wiscasset tied the game in the second half as Julien King scored with an assist from Marr. Neither team scored in the two sudden overtime periods.
Cotta believes the team is in a strong playoff position with only six games remaining. “We continue to put ourselves in excellent tournament playoff position given the parity in our conference,” he said.
Wiscasset was set to host No. 2 Pine Tree Academy (5-0) on Tuesday, Sept. 29 and on Thursday, Oct. 1, the Wolverines were set to host No. 1 Telstar (5-0). Wiscasset was 2-3-3 going into the Sept. 29 game.
