ROCKPORT — Everyone is welcome to join Adas Yoshuron Synagogue at the Rockport Opera House on Sunday, Dec. 29, from 4 - 6 p.m., for a community Chanukah celebration. This party is open to all and will be the major public celebration of Chanukah bringing together people from communities throughout the Midcoast area.
The Casco Bay Tummlers will perform live klezmer and holiday music throughout the evening, and lead traditional and Israeli dancing. There will be a community menorah lighting ceremony, with singing by the Adas Yoshuron Hebrew School students.
Traditional Chanukah foods will be served, including potato latkes, and international dishes made by the Food in Jewish Culture group.
There will be Chanukah crafts for kids.
“Adas Yoshuron is pleased to be sharing this Jewish holiday full of history, tradition, food, and music with our community,” said Adas, in a news release. “We are reaching out to help build better understanding, stronger relationships, and celebrate diversity in Midcoast Maine.”
Cost for the event is $10 per person; kids 12 and under are free.
“Thanks to our generous sponsors Cedar Works, Russell's of Camden, Fiore Artisan Olive Oils, and Once a Tree for helping to make this event a fun occasion for all,” said Adas.
Adas Yoshuron Synagogue is an unaffiliated, all-inclusive synagogue serving the Jewish community of Midcoast Maine since 1912. Sabbath services are held regularly, a Hebrew School for grade-school children meets weekly, and a variety of cultural and community events take place throughout the year.
