Anti-racism vigils going to summer hours

Mon, 05/28/2018 - 6:15pm

Dear Editor:

Did you know that there is a group in Lincoln County offering opportunities to respectfully engage with our neighbors around issues of racism and white privilege? People United Against Racism are the organizers of the yearly Martin Luther King Day events in the twin villages and also hold weekly anti-racism vigils every Monday in Newcastle’s Veterans Memorial Park. The vigils are moving to summer hours, 4:30 to 5 p.m., starting June 4, rather than 12 to 12:30 p.m. when they meet in winter and spring.

This summer, People United are also offering a community discussion group on the book “So You Want to Talk About Race” immediately after and right next door to the vigil. The group will meet second and fourth Mondays in June, July, and August at the Second Congregational Church in Newcastle at 5:15 p.m. Please join us for the vigils, the book group, or both.
