Chester A. “Chet” Babcock

Chester A. “Chet” Babcock, 87, of Marlborough, Mass., died on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at the Marlborough Hospital after being stricken at his residence earlier in the week.

He was born in Boston, Mass., on May 10, 1925, son of the late Chester C. Babcock and Maude A. (Breen) Babcock.

Chet is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Dorothy A. (Schnair) Babcock of Marlborough, Mass., formerly of Wayland, Mass.; beloved father of Stephen L. Babcock and his wife Patricia A. of Wayland, Mass.; Linda J. Groton of Boothbay Harbor; and Ronald C. Babcock and his wife Kari of Boothbay. He is also survived by nine cherished grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He had been a resident of Wayland, Mass., for 29 years and for the past 25 years, he has resided in Marlborough, Mass. Chet spent his formative years in Newton, Mass., and was a graduate of Newton High School with the class of 1943. 

After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army during World War II and rose to the rank of Sergeant as a Motorcycle MP stationed in Hawaii. He has a long and distinguished career as an autobody technician with several well established car dealerships in the Belmont, Wellesley, Wayland and Framingham, Mass., area. 

He enjoyed his summer residence with his family in East Boothbay where he spent time fishing, boating and golfing. Chet liked to putter around with projects at his home and at his summer residence and always kept active. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and always delighted in the time he spent with them.

Visitations will be held on Monday, Feb. 18 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Route 30), Wayland, Mass. His funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Christopher Ziegler officiating.

His interment will be held in the Babcock family lot in Boothbay in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, his family suggests that memorial gifts in Chet’s memory may be sent to Marlborough Hospital or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
