The votes are in and 50 subscribers have chosen their favorites for the Harbor Theater’s Classic Film Series consisting of six movies to be screened once a month from October through March.

Individual tickets for $10 (no discounts) will also be available at each showing. The ticket price includes popcorn and a small water for the show. A complimentary reception with wine and cheese will be held after the show so viewers can stay to discuss the film with each other.

The first film is no surprise: “Gone with the Wind,” which will be shown Thursday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. The all-time favorite, released in 1939, stars Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh, with Leslie Howard and Olivia de Havilland.  It runs 3 hr. and 58 minutes, with an intermission. Complimentary wine, cheese, coffee and cookies will be served during the intermission. Show will get out at 6 p.m.

Here’s the original synopsis of the movie: “A manipulative woman and a roguish man conduct a turbulent romance during the American Civil War and Reconstruction periods.”

What more needs to be said!

It won eight Oscars and was the top-grossing film of that year. It has gone on to win hearts and minds over and over again for the last 79 years.

Continuing the series will be: “Lawrence of Arabia” on Nov. 15, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” on Dec. 20, “Bridge over the River Kwai” on Jan. 17, “Casablanca” on Feb. 21 and “Singin’ in the Rain” on March 21.

Subscribers do not need tickets. Names will be checked off a list at the door. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. $10 tickets will be available for each individual performance.
