As of Monday, Jan. 7, Wiscasset no longer has passenger bus service. Concord Coach Lines, Inc., based in Concord, New Hampshire suspended its bus service here.

The company will continue its daily bus service to Boston and Logan Airport from Bath, Brunswick, Damariscotta and Waldoboro.

The bus stop was at the former Huber’s Market which closed nine months ago. A sign announcing suspension of the bus service was taped inside the front door of the former convenience store indicating customers could call 1-800-639-3317 for further information.

Melissa Miller, marketing coordinator for Concord Coach Lines, told the Wiscasset Newspaper bus service was suspended after the company was informed the property wouldn’t be plowed this winter.

“There was a safety concern so the decision was made to suspend service and reassess things in the spring,” she said.

Daniel Sortwell of Churchill Street said he learned the bus service had been suspended after logging onto the company’s website to see the schedule to Logan Airport.

“It was certainly disappointing. Many people relied on the bus service. They were especially busy during the summer months,” he said.

Sortwell remembers in the 1970s when Wiscasset’s bus stop was located downtown. “That actually might be a better place to locate it.”

For more than 30 years, Huber’s Market served as a bus stop, first for Concord Trailways, later Concord Coach Lines. The convenience store closed in April 2018 and is listed for sale.

Up until last week,Concord Coach Lines had continued using the store’s parking area as a bus stop.
