Anton Webern’s “Op. 5, Fünf Sätze” changes as abruptly as the Maine March sky. If you live here or have lived here this time of year, you know what that means: It’s intensely gorgeous and unsettled in the same breath, constantly shifting mood and color.
The pairing of DaPonte String Quartet, Lydia Forbes, Myles Jordan, Ferdinand Liva and Kirsten Monke, with guest violinist Byron Wallis, are as perfect a pairing as the composers chosen this program. Webern’s ‘Opus 5’; Brahms’ brooding and dramatic “String Quartet Opus 51, No 1 in C Minor; the sweet, Boccherini influenced “D Major Quartet, K.575 of Mozart.
