Discovering Wiscasset

Dear Editor:

As communications director for a state agency in Utah, I have Google alerts set that send me any news mention of our organization and of my name … Terry Wood.

Several times I have seen mention of your new school superintendent in the Wiscasset Newspaper. I haven't really taken the time to read them, but the story I received this morning of the rain out of your of your Night Out picnic caught my attention. I have had it happen to community events I have organized. I empathize with your participants.

But then I decided to check out Wiscasset, since I didn't even know know what state it is in. I “Googled” it and zoomed in on the map and then took a street view tour through the town, as you can do on Google these days. Let me tell you, I think Wiscasset appears to be an ideal town … clean, green, and a place I will have to visit sometime. I want to sit outside Red’s Eats and watch the shimmer of the water. I want to have lobster at Sprague’s and a cold draught at Sarah’s. And I want to stop in your local galleries, of which I noticed there are a few. So now I have new additions to my Bucket List.

Anyway, I just wanted to compliment you on your beautiful town and I am sure the rest of Lincoln County is just as nice. I only traveled across the bridge and there was quite a bit of traffic waiting to come into Wiscasset, so plenty of others already know of the town charm. If you take that street view trip on Google Map, you will see what I mean.

As a journalist myself with a 50-year career, please pass along what a nice job Gina Hamilton did on the story. It was very descriptive and I felt like I was there. I am also amazed she managed to catch the bolt of lightening on the pic.

Say “Hi” to your Terry Wood for me.

Terry Wood
