Edgecomb Historical Society presents Van Reid

Event has passed

The Edgecomb Historical Society extends an open invitation to join us at the Edgecomb Town Hall Saturday, March 24 at 7 p.m. The speaker for the evening: none other than Edgecomb's own Van Reid.

Reid will be speaking to the Edgecomb Historical Society about family tales, tales of Edgecomb and Maine, writing historical fiction, tall tales, Maine humor, and his adventures in historical research and the world of books. There will be a question and answer session after his talk.

Once asked how long he had been researching his novels that mostly take place in late 19th century Maine, Reid replied, “All my life.” Regaled since childhood with family tales and having inherited his parents’ fascination with history, it was perhaps inevitable that his desire to “write for a living” would eventually coincide with old ways and olden days.

Reid’s historical fiction (following the adventures of an old-fashioned gentlemen’s club called The Moosepath League), incorporate mystery, romance, folklore, and a large dollop of humor. They have garnered positive and sometimes starred reviews across the country and his first book, “Cordelia Underwood,” was named a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. They are currently available in new editions from Down East Books.

The town hall is located at 473 Boothbay Road/Route 27, Edgecomb. Admission is by donation.
