Election recap with County Democrats Nov. 19

The Lincoln County Democrats to hold their final monthly meeting of the year
Tue, 11/10/2020 - 8:30am

The Lincoln County Democratic Committee (LCDC) has announced the agenda for their final monthly meeting of 2020. The committee will meet online on Thursday, Nov. 19  at 7 p.m. Optional Zoom social time begins at 6:30 p.m. The LCDC welcomes all Lincoln County registered Democrats and unenrolled voters who voted for Democrats to attend.

Pre-registration is required to receive access. To attend online, via Zoom, or to listen by phone only, register at https://lincolncountydemocrats.com/meet

Lincoln County registered Democrats who are interested in becoming voting members of the LCDC, should simply indicate their interest in the meeting registration form, whether they plan to attend the meeting or not, to have their name put forward to the membership to vote in on Thursday, Nov. 19. This is the last meeting where new members may be added before LCDC officers are elected in Jan. 2021.

The agenda includes election analysis by Portland Press Herald columnist Bill Nemitz. Nemitz has worked as a journalist in Maine since 1977. He began writing his current column in 1995. While focusing on Maine people and issues, his work has taken him three times to Iraq and twice to Afghanistan; to Belfast, Northern Ireland, for the 1998 referendum; to Manhattan for the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks; to the Gulf Coast for Hurricane Katrina; and to Haiti following the 2010 earthquake. In 2004, the Maine Press Association named Nemitz Maine Journalist of the Year for his reporting on the Maine Army National Guard’s 133rd Engineer Battalion in Iraq. In 2007, he received the Distinguished Service Award from the New England Newspaper Association. In 2015, Nemitz was inducted into the Maine Press Association Hall of Fame.

From Chris Johnson, LCDC chair, “We will celebrate the wins of Chellie Pingree, Chloe Maxmin's inspiring win over the Republican State Senate Minority leader, the resounding victories of Lydia Crafts, Holly Stover, and our friend Jeff Evangelos. I've won elections and lost them. So I understand how hard it is for Sara Gideon, Tim Marks, and Chris Hamilton - who ran great campaigns - when the votes don't bring you a win. We send them our best wishes that after a little time to recover, they will carry on finding a way to do good things for all the right reasons. We've all worked hard for this time. Let's celebrate having real national leadership again - with president-elect Joe Biden and vice president-elect Kamala Harris. Let's celebrate the continuing Democratic leadership in Maine to help achieve the work of the nation as Biden said, and begin the healing.”

The LCDC does not anticipate any participant limitations but does ask that registrations be submitted before Noon the day of the meeting. They will do their best to accommodate last-minute registrations. Anyone who needs help using Zoom may log on at 6:15 p.m. for a brief tutorial or contact info@lincolncountydemocrats.com with questions.
