Friends of WPL group plans Labor Day Bands for Books event

Mon, 07/15/2019 - 12:45pm

Plans are underway for the sixth annual Bands for Books. It’s held in September to raise money for Wiscasset Public Library. Friends of the Library is organizing the event for Sept. 2, Labor Day, from 5 to 7 p.m., once again at Marianmade Farm in Wiscasset.

For the third year in a row, the talented band the Salty Dogs is featured. They play rock ‘n’ roll music from the 1950s to the 2000s. Dancing is encouraged and the lively music makes it almost impossible not to join in the fun.

There will be a variety of hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar, and a silent auction of inviting items and experiences. They include an hourlong scenic coastal airplane flight for three, a case of red and white wine, original paintings, prints, and gift certificates from several downtown Wiscasset stores,  and for a facial, and a massage.

Prior to the event, tickets, at $20 per person, can be bought at the library at 21 High St. or at Birch home furnishings and gifts at 72 Main St.. Tickets will also be available, at $25 per person, the night of the event at the entrance to the farm on 155 Federal St.. All the monies collected will be used to benefit the library and will be specifically earmarked for a new door at the entry and for painting that area so that it becomes a bright and welcoming space for all patrons.

The generous local sponsors include, Ames True Value, First Federal Savings, The First National Bank, and private patron Louana Frois.

So, mark your calendars, get ready to have some fun, and take home some wonderful auction items while helping update the library.
