Maine Community Foundation recently awarded a $3,000 Maine Theater Fund grant to Heartwood Regional Theater Company in support of an original production coming in July 2018, "Down Along the Cove," written and directed by Griff Braley.

“Down Along the Cove” is set in a fictional coastal Maine town. Actors portray seven primary characters and 15 secondary characters, through fifteen interlaced vignettes. In addition to the narrative, the play is filled with graphics: visual and aural depictions of the scenes and meaning of the play. All seven actors are onstage throughout, providing character work, ensemble storytelling, movement and music.  The play covers a 15-year timeline, during which characters uncover their pasts and come to face their future, upended by grief, bonded as neighbors, and transformed by hope.
After a three week intense workshop period in April, the cast will break for a month or so, then return in June to fully stage the play in the Poe Theater at Lincoln Academy.
"Maine Community Foundation has supported our creative work for many, many years,” said Braley. “We couldn't be more grateful to the folks who created the Theater Fund, as they care for so many companies, large and small, around the state. We hope to shine a light on Maine's creative ability with this new work, set right here where we live and grow."
Heartwood Regional Theater Company received its 501(c)(3) status in 2003, with a mission to promote the theater art experience in the community. Now in its 15th season, the company has produced more than 100 productions and events. For more information visit www.heartwoodtheater.org.
