Lincoln County kids will be thrilled this holiday season as Hodgdon Yachts has wrapped up its production of 150 new, handmade toys. The toys are reserved for the Toys for Tots program which helps give gifts to families who may not be able to afford them during the holidays.

Two of the three designs – a pull-along tugboat and a puffin with rubber flapping feet – are a throwback to the 90s when the business began the program. After many extremely busy years, the program has been revived this season and introduces a new toy: blocks in a bag – a bait bag.

Human Resources Manager Diane Hammond really pushed for the return of the program, which boasts 90 percent employee participation and countless paid and donated hours.

“It came out good,” Hammond said looking over all the toys lined up on the table. “It was definitely worth it.”

Owner Tim Hodgdon said it could not have been done without the support of all the employees, and support from vendors including Hammond Lumber, Grover's Hardware, Midcoast Marine in Waldoboro, Hamilton Marine, Ames True Value, Casey's Wood Products and Southport General Store.

“It’s a great thing for the community,” Hodgdon said. “It's pretty impressive and it really is awesome.”
