The United Methodist Women, aka “The Pie Ladies” are busy again getting ready for their Sunshine Summer Fair. The highlight of the fair is the lobster rolls! But the pies and baked goods are a close second. The cookie walk and modified yard sale are very popular as well.
The Methodist ladies groups started the fairs some 60 plus years ago. During that time Marjorie Driscoll named it the Sunshine Fair since it was held in the summer. Eventually the different groups merged into one group and they became the United Methodist Women.
We have kept the summer fair tradition over the years and about 10 years ago we changed the menu to lobster rolls and it has been a hit. We usually sell out of lobster by closing! We also offer chicken salad and ham salad as alternatives. The luncheon includes chips, dessert and beverage. Lobster rolls are $25 and chicken or ham salad is $12.
The fair opens at the Boothbay Harbor Methodist Church at 9:30 a.m. Saturday July 30. Lunch starts at 10:30 a.m. You may eat in or take out ... and remember if you don’t want a lunch you can still get your pie!
The church is located at 81 Townsend Ave., Boothbay Harbor.
