With profound sadness and love in our hearts, we announce the passing of Nancy Thorpe Sellar, our adoredand devoted mother and friend to all whose lives she touched, on May 9, 2019.

Nancy left us peacefully at her home in Silver Spring, Maryland, with family by her side. She was 82 years old.

Born in Boston to Margaret and Richard Thorpe, Nancy grew up in Lincoln, Massachusetts and spent many summers in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Her long marriage to Peter Sellar ended in divorce.

She then worked for Ted Kennedy’s first senatorial campaign, an experience that inspired her to move to Washington, D.C., and devote her time and career to volunteerism and community service. Nancy spent several years working for AmeriCorps VISTA and volunteering as a financial caretaker for schizophrenic women. In the last phase of her career, Nancy spent over a decade as a manager for a low-income bill payee/volunteer program through AARP.
