The North Pole Express is ready to be fired up!

Elf hunt, S’mores, bonfire, vintage Christmas Toy Shop, story time, make your own Christmas ornament ... and more!

Beginning on Saturday, Dec. 3, the North Pole Express, a.k.a. the Christmas train, will leave Freeport Station at the Boothbay Railway Village Museum, at 586 Wiscasset Road/Route 27 in Boothbay, and head to the ‘North Pole’ every weekend before Christmas. The magical adventure begins inside the historic 1912 Freeport Station, where children can write their letter to Santa near a cozy wood stove.

Train conductors will call “All Aboard!” and ticket holders will board the train to the North Pole, settling into a comfortable seat in the classic passenger car, the “Little Red Caboose” No. 551, built in 1904, or true vintage style in the open-air car.

Riders will pass through a picturesque forest and historic village to the North Pole, where a very special guest in a red suit with a jolly belly will jump aboard to greet them! Every child will receive a special keepsake to help spark their magic leap to the North Pole.

    The festivities and grounds are open from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 3 & 4, 10 & 11, and 17 & 18. There are eight train departures each day in the morning at 10:45 and 11:30; and afternoons at 12:15 1, 1:45, 2:30, 3:15 and 4!

After meeting the “big guy” in person, the train will head back to the station where multiple festivities - and lots of fun -await - check it out: storybook reading in the Spruce Point Chapel; make your own S’mores at the Bonfire on the Village Green; experience the vintage holiday display inside the Harrington House Barn decked out 1940s style; stroll into the 1847 Boothbay Town Hall and warm up at the Hot Chocolate Bar (‘spiced up’ versions available for Mom and Dad); go on an elf hunt and win a prize if you find them all; make your own Christmas ornament; visit the Toy Shop Exhibit all decked out for a Vintage Christmas; enter the Selfie Christmas Photo Contest; get your signed edition of “Hop Onward Rabbit Rabbit” and “The Maine Birthday Book”; explore the exhibits on the Museum’s lower campus (weather permitting); shop at the Iron Horse Antiques and General Store Holiday Market.

Tickets are $21 for everyone aged 3 and up. Museum members receive a $4 discount per ticket! Tickets sell out early and advance purchase is required. Tickets are available ONLINE ONLY at www.RailwayVillage.org.
