Novel Jazz at Frontier Cafe
The Novel Jazz Septet will present an evening of music by jazz icons, Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn, at the Frontier Cafe in Brunswick on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 8 p.m.
The band performs well-known standards, plus rare, vintage gems, recently unearthed from original scores at the Ellington collection at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. and re-interpreted for you at Frontier.
The musicians of this group have been playing straight-ahead jazz for audiences throughout Maine (and beyond) for several decades. Collectively, they share over two centuries of experience in the jazz idiom. The band has been focused on the enormously rich repertoire (~3,000 compositions) of Duke Ellington and his musical collaborator Billy Strayhorn for years, with an annual concert series performed throughout the state. This unique jazz experience is augmented by the history of each and every tune. The group consists of Barney Balch (trombone), Michael Mitchell (trumpet), Herb Maine (acoustic bass), Mickey Felder (piano), Bill Manning (drums), Dave Clarke (guitar) and Sean Potter (alto saxophone).
Admission for the Frontier Café concert is $18 for adults, in advance, $20 at the door. The theater is located at 14 Maine St. Mill 3 Fort Andross, Brunswick.
