Westport Community Association was on tap to ask selectmen’s OK Nov. 23 to serve wine at the group’s annual holiday gathering. Instead, WCA co-chair Debbie Lorenson reported its board of directors voted earlier that day to cancel the Dec. 6 event  “due to the COVID concerns for our island. So unfortunately we’ve made that decision finally, and we’ll just have to look forward to the future.”

Also in the UberConference call, First Selectman George Richardson said the recently announced, $40.50 make-up checks to about 212 property owners with homestead exemptions will be sent alphabetically, about 50 a week. He said the first batch came to $1,984. The $8,586 grand total will come from the budget overlay, Richardson said.

Third Selectman Ross Norton continues working to get a firm to come wire the salt and sand shed door.
