Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta is displaying photos of pumpkin art at the Central Lincoln County (CLC) YMCA during September and October. The photos represent 12 of the 70+ pumpkin art projects created by volunteer artists for the 2018 Pumpkinfest festival. The volunteer artists are the festival’s stars who paint, decorate and carve the giant pumpkins. These dedicated artists donate their talents, time, and materials to create the beautiful and entertaining pumpkin street art viewed by thousands of visitors during the festival and around the country and the world via social media photos and videos. Please join us at the CLC YMCA to celebrate some of the artists’ creations from last year.
The annual festival requires approximately 70 volunteer artists to complete the art for all of the pumpkins that are sponsored by area companies and individuals. Giant pumpkins are set on the sidewalks and greenways throughout the streets of Damariscotta, Newcastle and beyond. The artists actually create their art onsite at the street locations. Often times, the artists endure adverse weather conditions during the one day available for them to complete their painted and carved pieces of art. Come rain or shine, the dedicated artists persevere and the show goes on without fail. The artists begin their work at dawn that morning, and they will work until sunset to complete their art.
This year marks the 13th annual Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta. The scores of volunteer artists will hit the streets on Friday, Oct. 11, with paint, brushes, decorations and carving tools to create their pumpkin art for 2019 Pumpkinfest. In preparation for the spirit of this year’s festival, treat yourself to a visit at the CLC YMCA and enjoy the pumpkin art photos displayed on the walls of the Welcome Center. Then visit the festival this fall on Oct. 11 –14 to view the awesome pumpkin art that will be created by this year’s talented volunteer artists.
