Update: The Lincoln County Sheriff's Department released the following information Monday on Saturday's incident:

On Saturday Dec. 15, at about 12:36 a.m., Lincoln County deputies responded to an apartment building on Heritage Lane in Wiscasset for an unwanted subject. While en route, deputies learned the subject involved had been identified as 35-year-old Matthew Plummer. Attempts to interview Plummer outside his apartment were unsuccessful as he would not exit the apartment to speak with the responding deputies. Based on Plummer’s criminal history and past violent involvements with law enforcement, a decision was made to remove all the occupants of the apartment building and request the assistance of the State Police Tactical and Crisis Negotiation Teams. Deputies secured the perimeter of the building in which Plummer was contained until relieved by State Police Tactical members. While awaiting the arrival of the State Police units, a Lincoln County detective sought and eventually obtained a search warrant for Plummer’s apartment that listed Plummer and a knife involved in an alleged threat. Plummer was also named in an arrest warrant charging Domestic Violence Assault (Class D) and Domestic Violence Criminal Threatening with a Dangerous Weapon (Class C). Once on scene, the State Police assumed control of the perimeter and the negotiations. Contact with Plummer was made by phone and loud speaker. Negotiations continued for several hours but proved unsuccessful. At about 8:27 a.m., Plummer exited his apartment only after a chemical agent had been deployed inside the apartment. Once outside, Plummer continued to actively resist his arrest. After being placed into custody, Plummer was treated by Wiscasset EMS for a dog bite to his hand and was transported to the Lincoln Health Miles Campus for additional care. A Lincoln County deputy accompanied Plummer in the ambulance. The injury occurred when Plummer actively resisted his arrest and a State Police K-9 was deployed. After being medically cleared, Plummer was transported and placed into the custody of Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset. Plummer was expected to appear before a judge via video arraignment Monday. In addition to the other agencies, the Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office and the Wiscasset Fire and Police Departments. Original post: A man was taken into custody following an overnight standoff in Wiscasset Saturday morning, Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland said.

Wiscasset police requested the state's tactical team in the early morning hours due to a standoff, McCausland said in a phone interview.

No one else was in the home, he said. He was aware of no injuries in the incident and had no further information.

Wiscasset Fire Department cleared the scene on Heritage Lane Saturday morning after being called to the area for a threat of arson, Fire Chief T.J. Merry confirmed.

The department got the call about 5:45 a.m. and parked at Big Al's on Route 1, Merry said in a phone interview. Hours later, State Police finished their work at the scene and the fire department was called to an apartment building on Heritage Lane to ventilate it, Merry said.

He said Wiscasset EMS transported one person to Miles Hospital in Damariscotta. Merry had no further details. The department cleared the scene shortly before 10 a.m., he said.

Lincoln County Communications referred the Wiscasset Newspaper to State Police.
