Story Map writing class at Hidden Valley Nature Center

Thu, 07/01/2021 - 7:45am

Midcoast Conservancy is offering a Nature Journaling class on Saturday, Aug. 7 at Hidden Valley Nature Center in Jefferson from 1 to 4 p.m.

Instructor Andrea Lani will lead participants through the process of Story Mapping. Story maps are illustrated maps that show the route traveled, interesting features encountered along the way, like cool trees or beaver ponds, and events that occur during the journey, such as a bird landing on a branch or a turtle crossing the trail.

For this workshop, attendees will hike from the parking lot around the Crossbill Loop and along Warbler Way, creating their story maps as they go. Once at the barn, the group will spend some time at the picnic tables refining their maps, adding details and color, and sharing their creations. While the instructor will offer drawing tips, this will be a freeform opportunity to explore individual creativity.  The class will be outside the whole time, so participants should dress for the weather and be prepared for bugs and bring snacks and water. The instructor will provide paper and drawing supplies.

Hidden Valley Nature Center is a 1,000 acre preserve with cabin and outdoor recreation equipment rentals and a low-impact forestry program. Learn more at https://www.midcoastconservancy.org/preserve/hidden-valley-nature-center/
