The Strawberry Festival is almost here!
Strawberries are ripening in the fields, soon to be transformed into luscious shortcakes piled high with real whipped cream, jam; in ice cream cones or quart continare for purchase, that have come to be expected from the crew at St. Philip’s Church, 12 Hodge St., Wiscasset.
Expectation is building for the 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. celebration of all things strawberry. The Saturday, June 25 event is a favorite of many locals, as well as those ‘from away,’ who look forward to the annual kick-off to the summer season.
The popular Bargain Basement will be open and available for people to find those inexpensive gems everyone loves to discover. A Children’s Area, Silent Auction, Hot Dog Stand, and Bake Table will also add to the festivities.
Be present at noon when the popular Pie Auction will occur with St. Phil’s own Rev. Paul Tunkle exercising auctioneer duties. Many homemade pies and other scrumptious desserts of all types will be auctioned off to the highest bidders. It is all in good, delicious fun, and the proceeds go to support the Church and its various programs.
To add to the festive atmosphere, there will be a craft show with many artisans, some returning year after year to take part, others new to the event, but all with interesting wares for purchase. Spend some time wandering the grounds looking at, and possibly taking home, some of the wonderful handmade baskets, jewelry, soaps and creams, and handiwork of other varieties. While many of the inside spaces are already taken, outside areas are still available for those craftspeople wanting a venue for their creativity.
So put the day on your calendar to join in the fun. Any questions? Call the Church Office at 207-882-7184. See you there!
