WCC October news: Seniors program, Halloween

    October will be a busy month in Wiscasset! The Parks and Recreation Department, in collaboration with other town organizations, will be celebrating fall with several events for everyone to enjoy.

    Family events

    Day Camp to Ricker Hill Farm Oct. 6. There’s no school in Wiscasset so join us for this trip. Cost is $40 per child for members and $50 for non-members. There is a sibling discount. For grade K-8.  Sign up before Oct. 5. Space is limited.

    Oct. 11: The Wiscasset Fire Department hosts its annual Open House from 6-8 pm.

    Oct. 13 and 14: Homecoming at Wiscasset Middle High School. For details and schedule, visit www.wiscassetrec.com

    Oct. 14: ScarecrowFest at the town office parking lot, from 11:30 a.m.- 3 p.m. Stop by, build a scarecrow, play in the bounce house, explore our “Touch A Truck” area or paint a pumpkin. Food will be available for an additional cost.

    Oct. 20: Our Teen Dances start up for the year again! This year, we will allow students in grades 6 – 9. Cost is $6 per person. Concession available with DJ Jay spinning the tunes.

    Oct. 27: Our annual Raven Egg Hunt at the WCC. Doors open at 6 p.m. We start at 6:30 p.m.

    Oct. 27: “Haunted High School” starting at 7 p.m. at WMHS. $5 for students. Scary fun after the egg hunt!

    Oct. 31: Nightmare on Federal Street! Our Annual Halloween Parade begins at 4:30 p.m. at the Wiscasset Elementary School parking lot. Lineup begins at 4 p.m. After the parade, stick around for “Nightmare on Federal Street” with a block party until 6:30 p.m.! Music, food (at an additional cost), a costume contest and Trunk or Treat provided by the Police, EMS and Fire departments, along with the Wiscasset Area Chamber of Commerce.

    Silver Sneakers now offered at WCC

    The Silver Sneakers Program has now begun! If you are 65 years or older, and have a qualifying health plan, you can become a member of the Community Center and enjoy all the benefits of membership for free. This program is offered through many healthcare plans that carry Medicare. Check online at www.silversneakers.com to see if your health care plan makes you eligible. The program launched Oct. 1.     Free Community Partner Days

    Don’t forget, every third Sunday of the month, the WCC is free to any Wiscasset, Alna and Westport Island resident as part of our “ Community Partner Days!” Come and use the pool, gym and fitness room ( standard rules of use apply) on Sunday, Oct. 15! We will be open from 1 to 5 p.m.

    Youth basketball registration

    Registration for youth basketball is going on now. Sign up before Nov. 25 and pay only $30. (Pee Wee basketball is $20) After Nov. 25, the price goes up $10. Basketball Skills Clinic will be Nov. 18. Games and practices will be held weekly and on Saturdays in December and January. FMI contact Duane Goud at 882-8230.
