YMCA’s 2020 Turkey Trot canceled

Thu, 11/19/2020 - 8:00am

Dear Editor:

This Thanksgiving will be a little different for many of us. At the Boothbay Region Y, we had hoped to make it happen – but I am sorry to announce that there will be no Turkey Trot this Thanksgiving. We instead encourage everyone to hike, walk, run or yoga on your own or online -- and give thanks to all!

We will miss being together in person! While the Y is closed on Thanksgiving Day, we are open the day before and after the big day and all of our in-person and virtual classes will still be happening, as listed on our website www.boothbayregionymca.org

Also missed will be the generous monetary donations to the Food Pantry that were collected around the Turkey Trot each year. Please consider giving in other ways! As you may have seen, the Y is currently running a “Fill the Bus for the Pantry” campaign – only this year we are filling the Y’s Front Lobby. You may donate non-perishable food for the local pantry at the Y’s main entrance along with four other new donation drop-off sites this year:

--The YMCA Harbor Montessori School & Child Enrichment Center

--The Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library

--Tindal & Callahan Real Estate

--First Federal Savings

On Thanksgiving morning, the Y will partner with yoga instructor Romee May and Crow Point Yoga to Zoom Romee’s annual community yoga class and food pantry fundraiser! I’ll be emailing Y members the Zoom instructions for this online opportunity, as well.

Keep moving, keep giving and stay healthy!
