Young Eagles Day at Wiscasset Municipal Airport Oct. 3
The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Brunswick Chapter 87 will host a Young Eagles Day on Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Wiscasset Municipal Airport. The rain date is Oct. 4.
The EAA Young Eagles (YE) program provides free airplane rides for youth between the ages of 8-17. These flights provided by volunteer pilots introduce today's youth to the realm of possibilities in aviation. Launched in 1992 to inspire the next generation of aviators, these events have since put 2.5 million youth in the air with the help of 43,000 volunteer pilots nationwide.
Maine has seven local EAA chapters at airports in Pittsfield, Bangor, Belfast, Limington, Biddeford, Brunswick and Rockland. For 34 years trained volunteer pilots from around the nation have donated their time, airplane, and fuel costs (with the help of a fuel discount provided by the host airport), to give these students an opportunity to soar. More than an exciting airplane ride, the program is an investment in the future, inspiring many "Young Eagles" over the years to pursue careers in the military and commercial aviation.
