Wed, 06/05/2019 - 11:45am

Summer is almost here! The Wiscasset Parks and Recreation Department and the Community Center have plenty going on to keep you and your family busy during the summer months.

Coffee (and Pizza) with a Cop! We are once again hosting our town Police Department for Coffee with a Cop on Tuesday, June 11 from 4:30 to 6:30p.m. This is also voting day, which takes place at the Community Center. Police Chief Larry Hesseltine has had requests for an evening meet and greet so for those who can’t do coffee, stop by for some pizza and conversation while you are out voting! We will also have iced coffee, lemonade and a few yummy desserts.

Summer Camp registration is going on now and filling up fast! Our signature day camp, Mainely Summer Camp, is now taking registrations for our seven-week camp. This camp is for kiddos entering kindergarten through fifth grade. You do not have to live in Wiscasset to participate. Each week consists of lots of outdoor play, gym games, arts and crafts, a field trip and a beach trip. Each week has a theme like, Olympics Week, or Wet and Wild week. Field trips include Aquaboggan, Monkey C, Monkey Do, Funtown and Get Air Trampoline Park! Beach trips will be to Damariscotta Lake Park, Lake St. George, Reid State Park and many more! You can download the full camp schedule at our website. Space is limited for this popular program so do not wait until the last minute! Call WCC for details on registration and pricing.

Summer Meals for Kids! Did you know that summertime is the hardest time of the year for many kids who live with food insecurity? Not knowing where your next meal is coming from can make these months incredibly stressful for families, so we are here to help. The Wiscasset Parks and Recreation Department is a location for the Summer Meals Program. This is a federally funded program that provides meals to anyone under the age of 18 in need or want of a meal. Breakfast and lunch will be served each weekday from July 1 to Aug. 16. We will not be providing meals on July 4 or 5. This service is open to any child regardless of where you live. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Friday Food Pantry: On Fridays starting in late June we will be receiving donations from the local food pantry that are free for the taking. Please stop by WCC Friday mornings after 9 a.m. or call us at 882-8230 to see if there has been a delivery.

PIYO on the Pier! Our PIYO Instructor, Lorna Weber, will be bringing her Saturday morning PIYO class to the Recreation Pier (at the end of Water street) on Saturday mornings from 7:45 to 9 a.m. This class is free for members. Non-members may drop in for a donation. Kick off your weekend with a rejuvenation class by the water!
