Damariscotta Montessori School Brings Joy to Residents at Harbor View Cottage

Damariscotta Montessori School seventh and eighth graders, along with their teacher, Samantha Mehlhorn, have been spending time with residents at Lincoln Home's memory loss care community, Harbor View Cottage. The students create a beehive of meaningful activities by spending individual time with residents.  Each student shares his or her special gift by participating in crafts, initiating sing-a-longs, performing piano, or spending time outside on the deck planting flowers with impromptu ukulele music. It was heartwarming to watch as student and a gentleman resident smile at each other as they create different designs with PVC pipe sections. Spending time with young people enriches the daily life of the residents, who thoroughly enjoy the visits. Staff and residents alike always look forward to the Montessori School students coming and thank them for sharing their time. One of the eighth grade girls promised to continue to come this summer, as she has so enjoyed her time at Harbor View Cottage.
