Merry Barn Writers’ Retreat & Educational Consulting is thrilled to welcome Dr. Molly Ness to help families “Make the Most of Your Bedtime Story,” on Thursday, Aug. 15, at 6:30 p.m.
Dr. Ness, an associate professor of reading at Fordham University, and the author of “Think Alouds,” is a part-time resident of Round Pond and a member of the Merry Barn Advisory Board. She has done extensive research and writing about the importance of reading aloud. Her paper, “The Power and Promise of Read Aloud” was published in January by the International Literacy Association.
While Molly shares her best tips for engaging readers of all ages, kids are welcome to join Merry Barn owner and literacy coach, Stephanie Noyes McSherry, in the barn’s library for cookies, milk, and a bedtime story or two. Pajamas are encouraged as we get cozy and share some of our favorite books!
The evening is free and open to the public. Donations will be gratefully accepted to support financial assistance for Summer Writing Adventures for Kids at the Merry Barn.
Families are also encouraged to bring a gently used book to donate to Dr. Ness’ newest endeavor, End Book Deserts (www.endbookdeserts.com), which seeks to ensure all children have access to high-quality literature, especially in underserved communities.
