Edgecomb Day to feature Kate McDonnell

Event has passed

On Sunday afternoon, Sept. 8 at the Edgecomb Community Church, 15 Cross Point Road, Edgecomb, Kate McDonnell will perform her popular "Sean Nos" Irish singing as a featured part of Edgecomb Day. McDonnell previously appeared in Waldoboro last February and wowed her audience with her unique style of singing, that is a highly ornamented style of complex solo singing in Gaelic and English.

"Katie McD" as McDonnell is affectionately known to her fans young and old, has a storied history in Massachusetts. McDonnell was brought over to the U.S. by the Berklee College of Music for her singing talent. Her CD "Angel Baby" was played on 120 stations nationwide, while her first album, "Offering" contained her bestselling song "Dana."

Edgecomb Day was begun as a way to celebrate the Town of Edgecomb. Festivities begin at 2 p.m., with McDonnell's performance beginning at 3:15 p.m.

There will also be free apple crisp with ice cream, family games with prizes, a bounce house, face painting and fun for all. Edgecomb Day is open to everyone.

The newly built "Labyrinth in the Field" will be unveiled and available for walking. The Labyrinth provides opportunities for meditation and spiritual practice in a natural setting. The ancient practice of walking a labyrinth has been known to nearly all cultures and religions around the globe. Many find that following a path to the center stills the mind and opens the heart.

There will also be an opportunity to view the newly restored church steeple. The Edgecomb Community Church was established in 1783 and is an Open and Affirming Congregation of the United Church of Christ.
