October has arrived and with it the leaves have started to skitter along the path at night, and the night itself comes ever earlier. Fires are starting to burn in the hearths around town and stories are being told into the evening. The Opera House celebrates the fall season with one night only of Scary Readings. Less scary is the Halloween community potluck and both events take place on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 86 Townsend Ave., Boothbay Harbor.
A cast of Maine readers will share some unsettling stories – the readings are not intended for a young audience. Some are true, some are not, but all are appropriate for the season. And neighbors will share potluck offerings for dinner. All guests are asked to bring a main, a side dish, or a salad to share. If you have a special Halloween-inspired dessert that you make, then bring that instead. Please do not bring bread. Guests are also asked to bring utensils and a plate in an effort to reduce the trash created by single use plates and plastic ware. The downstairs Opera House bar will have beer, wine, soft drinks and water available – please do not bring drinks into the Opera House.
The doors to the Opera House will creak open at 5:30 p.m., please do not arrive early as the ghouls will still be decorating. Dinner will be served at 6 and the readings will follow.
No tickets or reservations are required, just a food offering to share with the good spirits in the House. Questions? Call 633-6855.
