A fundraiser for Debbie Holmes Beam will be held on Friday, Nov. 22 from 5 to 8:30 p.m. downstairs at the Opera House at Boothbay Harbor, 86 Townsend Ave., Boothbay Harbor. Beam has been fighting cancer since last September, a fight that rages on. She needs our help, though she would never ask for it. Close friends and family are holding this event to give her some financial peace of mind when she is no longer able to work.
There will be a silent auction and live auction organized by Becky Beam Kash and Gayle Garber,. Doug Gimbel will be the auctioneer. Finger foods and appetizers are generously being prepared by friends and former co-workers Andy Maxfield and Amy Ronan. The Opera House staff will provide a cash bar downstairs.
Beam has been a singer-actress for decades. Here’s the cast of Deb’s theater friends who will perform at this early evening benefit: Ellie Busby, Nancy Durgin, Nick Azzaretti, Ron Bouffard, John David Adams, Nick Buck, Nick Mirabile and Sophia Scott with musical accompaniment by Kevin Kiley. Singer-songwriter Katie Matzell, a friend of Becky’s and the Beam family, will sing a few numbers accompanied by Aaron Robinson. Acoustic duo, The Road Apples – Glenn “Ginc” Burnham and guitarist Gordon Goldsmith – will also take the stage followed by the Don Brewer Blues Project for the rest of the evening.
Tickets will be $25 each, to buy in advance beginning Nov. 1. All ticket sources will be announced in the Oct. 31 Boothbay Register. There will only be 200 tickets, so be sure to get yours as soon as you can! If any remain, they will be sold at the door (Smith Street entrance).
Debbie Beam is loved by all who know her – at Edgecomb Eddy School, where she’s worked since its Eddy Road years as a special education technician III and teacher; in the choir loft at the Congo Church here in the Harbor, waiting tables at Maxfield’s Harbour High and Bravo’s; as one of the “Cow Girls” at the Smiling Cow/Gimbel’s Country Store; and as thimble painter for Gimbel’s catalog back in the day. She has been in the footlights performing with Lincoln County Community Theater (LCCT) and The Boothbay Playhouse for decades; musical revues, and productions including “Brigadoon” and “Nunsense,” “Once Upon A Mattress,” and many other shows and theaters.
