After a couple hundred feet, Hinkley crossed the center yellow line into opposing traffic and struck a trailer being hauled by southbound 2012 Ford truck driven by William Cole, 36, of Springvale, who swerved to avoid the car. When the car came to a rest, Hinkley allegedly fled the scene on foot before police arrived. The car was towed due to disabling damage to the front. Hinkley was arrested the next day.
The truck had no observable damage. There was significant damage to the trailer and minor damage to a snow sled on the trailer.
